Ant Control in Cardiff

The common black garden ant is the one marching through Cardiff kitchens every summer. A trail appears along the worktop or skirting, leading unerringly to something sweet, and within a day there are dozens following it. It’s a seasonal rhythm (workers forage hardest in warm weather), and on a still July afternoon comes the annual spectacle of flying ants, when winged queens and males leave every nest in the street at once to mate. Dramatic to watch; a fact of the season rather than an emergency.

Around Heath and Llanishen’s post-war semis, the usual suspects are nests under paving, patios and lawn edges, with a well-worn route in under the kitchen door.

The job at a glance

  • Visits: usually one.
  • What happens: the trail leads us to the colony, and the colony is what gets treated.
  • Price: quoted per job; you will know the figure before we set off.

Ant control in Cardiff: treating the nest, not the trail

Wiping up the ants on the worktop achieves almost nothing: the ones you can see are foragers, and the nest replaces them by the hour. The way to actually end it is to take out the colony, and the neatest method is a professional bait the workers carry home themselves: it passes through the nest, reaches the queen, and the colony collapses from the inside. Where the nest is accessible outdoors (under that lifted paving slab, in the lawn edge), we’ll treat it directly as well.

Part of the job is simply tracing the trail back to where they’re getting in and nesting (under the path, in a wall cavity, beneath the floor) and advising on the small changes that make your kitchen a less rewarding destination once the colony’s gone. The bait sits in discreet placements, and we’ll tell you exactly where and what precautions apply around food, children and pets.

What it costs

Ant jobs vary with the nest: where it is, how established it is, and whether there’s more than one. So we’ll give you a proper quote rather than a misleading fixed price. Call us, describe what you’re seeing, or WhatsApp a photo of the trail, and we’ll give you a realistic figure and confirm it by text before we attend. The quote itself is free.

Common questions about ants

Why do the ants come back no matter how much I clean?

Because cleaning removes the trail, not the nest. The scent trail gets re-laid within hours by fresh foragers. Until the colony itself is treated, the kitchen keeps being rediscovered.

Are flying ants a separate problem?

No: they’re the same species reproducing, compressed into a few warm days each summer. From a garden nest it passes in a day or two and needs nothing. Pouring out of a wall cavity indoors, though, it’s worth treating the nest at the source.

There are ants coming out of the wall. What does that mean?

A nest in the cavity or under the floor, usually with a foraging exit indoors. It’s treated the same way (bait carried into the colony), just aimed at the indoor nest rather than a garden one.

Is the bait safe in a kitchen?

Yes: placements are small, discreet and sited away from food surfaces, and we’ll walk you through where each one is and any sensible precautions for children and pets.

Why a quote rather than a fixed price?

Because a single garden nest and a network of colonies under a patio are different jobs. A quick conversation and a photo let us give you a figure that’ll actually hold, confirmed by text before we set off.
