Bird Control in Cardiff

Bird problems are really proofing problems. Pigeons and seagulls aren’t hard to deter once you’ve worked out where they’re landing and nesting; the skill is doing it cleanly, at the right time of year, and within the law. Gulls in particular are protected in Wales, and anything touching their nests needs proper handling, not a quick fix promised over the phone.

Much of our bird work is on commercial and rented premises (flat roofs, shopfronts, parapets and solar arrays), but plenty is domestic too: the ledge over a bay window, the gap under the panels, the chimney the gulls have claimed. The aim is always the same: stop the fouling and the noise at the source, permanently.

What we’re called about most

Bird control in Cardiff: pigeons, seagulls and solar arrays

Pigeons

Fouling on ledges and sills, blocked gutters, noise from a favoured roost. Spikes, netting, wire and mesh, fitted to the building, not sold from a catalogue.

Seagulls

Roof nesting, dive-bombing in season, relentless noise. Proofing at the right time of year, with the NRW licensing reality spelled out.

Solar panels

Pigeons in the warm gap beneath the array. Cleared, cleaned and meshed off, clipped to the panels, nothing drilled, warranty intact.

The proofing window, worth planning for

Bird proofing is best done when birds aren’t nesting: autumn through late winter. That’s when roofs are clear, access is straightforward, and (for gulls) when the work is lawful without licensing questions. Come spring, an occupied nest takes most options off the table until the season ends. If gulls or pigeons made this summer miserable, the quiet months are exactly when to fix next year. That’s planning advice, not a sales line: it’s simply how the season works.

Common questions

Can you just remove a seagull’s nest?

Not on request. Gulls and their active nests are protected in Wales, and lawful removal needs an NRW licence with genuine justification. For most buildings the answer is proofing outside the season. The seagull page covers the law properly.

Is bird proofing humane?

Yes. Spikes, netting, wire and mesh are physical barriers that make surfaces unusable; nothing harms the birds. They move to more natural sites. It’s also the only approach that genuinely lasts.

How long does proofing last?

Years. There’s no chemical to wear off and nothing for the birds to get used to. The variable is the quality of fit, which is what the survey is for.

Do you handle commercial bird contracts?

Yes. Much of our bird proofing is for letting agents, landlords and small commercial premises across Cardiff, Penarth and Barry. See commercial pest control, or call to talk it through.

Birds where they shouldn’t be?

With gulls especially, the planning is the job. Get in touch early and we’ll talk you through the options.
