Cockroach Control in Cardiff
Cockroaches are far more common than anyone admits, and nothing to be ashamed of. They travel in on deliveries and second-hand appliances, and move between adjoining flats through shared walls and service voids. This is a discreet visit as standard: unmarked vehicle, no branded uniform or signage, so no one need know pest control has attended.
We’ll always confirm who we are on arrival, and you’re welcome to see our certifications and insurance documents on request.
The signs: cockroaches darting for cover when you flick the kitchen light on at night, droppings like ground pepper in the warm corners, an oily, musty smell where the problem is heavier, and shed skins or purse-shaped egg cases in the gaps behind appliances. In Cardiff it’s usually the German cockroach: small, brownish, fast-breeding, and devoted to warmth and moisture (the motor compartment of the fridge, behind the cooker, under the sink, around hot-water pipes).
The job at a glance
- Visits: always more than one; egg cases hatch after the first treatment, and the follow-ups are what clear them.
- Timing: we aim to be with you within two working days, and you’ll get a realistic date on the phone.
- Price: quoted per job across the visits it needs, confirmed by text; the quote itself costs nothing.
How cockroach control in Cardiff actually works
The mainstay is a professional gel bait, and it’s quietly clever: the cockroaches feed on it and carry it back into the harbourage, where it passes through the colony, including the ones that never show themselves. It reaches places no spray can, it doesn’t need your kitchen turned upside down, and it keeps working between visits.
Cockroach work is multi-visit by nature, and anyone who says otherwise is guessing. The egg cases are protected from treatment, so the job has to catch each generation as it hatches: treat, let the next wave emerge into the bait, follow up. We’ll inspect first to confirm the species and map the extent, then set out the visit plan and stick to it. Hygiene and proofing advice comes as part of the job, cutting off the moisture and food access that let the population build in the first place.
One plea: don’t reach for a shop fogger first. Foggers scatter cockroaches deeper into the structure (into wall voids and neighbouring rooms) and can make them avoid the gel afterwards. It genuinely makes the job harder.

Kitchens, HMOs and shared buildings
A lot of our cockroach work is in rented and shared housing, and in food businesses: the places where warmth, shared voids and constant deliveries give an infestation everything it needs. If you’re a landlord, a letting agent, or you run a cafe, takeaway or restaurant, we handle these programmes discreetly and can work around service hours. In a converted building, treating one flat in isolation often just moves the problem next door; we’ll say so plainly when the block needs treating as one job. See commercial pest control for how we work with premises.
What it costs
Cockroach work doesn’t suit a fixed price: the size of the infestation and the visits it needs vary too much between jobs. Call us: we’ll ask the right questions, quote the likely visits as one clear figure, and confirm it by text before we attend. The quote costs nothing.
Common questions about cockroaches
Does seeing one cockroach mean an infestation?
Not always. But cockroaches are nocturnal and hide superbly, so one in daylight often means an established population out of sight. It’s worth confirming either way, and a photo to our WhatsApp is the quickest first step.
Why does it take more than one visit?
Because the egg cases survive the first treatment. The job catches each generation as it hatches into the bait: treat, wait, follow up. Planning for that from the start is what actually clears them.
Will the neighbours know you’ve been?
No. Unmarked vehicle, no branded uniform, nothing left visible. Discretion isn’t an optional extra with us; it’s how every visit works.
Can Cardiff Council deal with cockroaches?
Not for a home just now: the council has paused residential cockroach treatments and hasn’t said when they’ll restart. If you live outside Cardiff, our guide to council pest control covers what your own council offers.
I’m a tenant. Who deals with this, me or the landlord?
It depends on the cause and your tenancy, and it’s worth a conversation rather than a stand-off, because cockroaches spread while people argue. We regularly work for both tenants and landlords, and for letting agents managing the middle ground.
Do I need to empty the kitchen?
No. Gel baiting needs access, not upheaval. We’ll give you a short preparation note when we book the visit; it’s a few minutes’ work, not an afternoon.
