Bed Bug Treatment in Cardiff

Bed bugs carry a stigma they don’t deserve. They turn up in immaculate homes and good neighbourhoods constantly, hitching in on luggage, second-hand furniture and even a visitor’s coat. This is a discreet visit as standard: we arrive in an unmarked vehicle with no branded uniform or signage, so as far as anyone can tell, you’ve simply had a visitor.

We’ll always confirm who we are when we arrive, and you’re welcome to see our certifications and insurance documents on request.

The classic signs: bites in small rows or clusters on skin exposed while you sleep, tiny dark spots along the mattress seams and headboard, papery shed skins, and (in a heavier case) a sweetish, musty smell. Bed bugs are small, flat and expert at hiding, which is precisely why they’re so hard to shift without a proper plan.

A sixty-second check if you’re unsure: strip the bed, run a torch slowly along the mattress piping and seams, check behind the headboard, and look in the corners of the bed frame. Black pin-head spots and live insects the size of an apple pip are what you’re looking for. Photograph anything you find; we can usually confirm it from the picture.

The job at a glance

  • Visits: inspection and treatment, then a follow-up where eggs make one necessary; the plan is set once we’ve mapped the spread.
  • Timing: we aim to attend within two working days, often sooner, and bed bug calls are never left waiting by choice.
  • Price: estimated on the phone once we know rooms and severity, then confirmed by text before we attend.

Why DIY sprays make bed bugs worse

The single most important thing to understand about bed bugs is dispersal. Spray a shop insecticide at the bed and you don’t kill the colony, you scatter it. The bugs retreat deeper into the room and beyond it: into the sofa, the skirting boards, the picture frames, the neighbouring bedroom. What began as one bed’s problem becomes a whole-flat problem, and the professional job gets bigger and longer as a direct result.

So if you suspect bed bugs, the best thing you can do is nothing dramatic. Don’t start spraying, don’t drag the mattress through the house to the tip, don’t start sleeping in another room: they’ll follow you and spread further. Leave the picture undisturbed and call. Found them late at night? Our guide to what can safely wait covers the hours before morning.

How our treatment works

We inspect first, to confirm it’s bed bugs and map exactly how far they’ve spread. That mapping decides everything that follows. Then we treat the affected rooms thoroughly and precisely: mattress seams, bed frames, skirtings, carpet edges and the cracks and crevices they shelter in. This is sometimes called fumigation, though what we actually carry out is a targeted insecticide treatment, applied where bed bugs live rather than misted about a room.

Because eggs are resistant to treatment, a follow-up visit is often part of the plan; it catches the late hatchers before they can re-establish. We’ll give you a short, clear preparation list before we come, and practical guidance on laundering and what to expect between visits.

Bed bug treatment in Cardiff: what it costs

Bed bug jobs vary more than almost anything else in this trade, and we’d rather explain that than quote a number that turns out to be meaningless. The real cost depends on how many rooms are affected, how established the infestation is, and whether follow-up treatment is needed. Those vary enormously between jobs, which is why our guide to pest control costs uses bed bugs as its clearest example. Call us for a quote: we’ll ask the right questions, give you a realistic figure, and confirm it by text before we attend. No callout charge.

Common questions about bed bugs

How much does bed bug treatment cost?

It genuinely varies (by rooms affected, severity, and follow-up needs) which is why we quote after a conversation rather than advertising a number that wouldn’t survive contact with a real job. You’ll have a clear figure confirmed by text before we attend, so you know the price before we set off.

Does Cardiff Council treat bed bugs?

Not in homes at the moment. The council’s own page says it can’t treat bed bugs in residential properties for now, with no restart date given. Other councils near Cardiff run their own schemes, set out in our council pest control guide.

Where did they come from? My home is spotless.

Cleanliness has nothing to do with it. Bed bugs feed on people, not dirt. Travel is the biggest source: hotel rooms, luggage holds, second-hand furniture. Immaculate homes get them all the time, which is exactly why we treat this as a discretion-first job.

Should I throw the mattress out?

Usually not. A treatable mattress rarely needs replacing, and carrying an infested one through the house spreads bugs as you go. Leave it in place and ask us first.

Will one treatment be enough?

Sometimes, but often a follow-up is needed to catch newly hatched bugs, because eggs are the survivors. We’ll tell you what your case needs once we’ve seen the extent of it.

Can I stay in the house during treatment?

You’ll need to be out of the treated rooms while we work and until surfaces are dry, and we’ll give you exact timings and any precautions for children and pets. Most people are back to normal by that evening. And yes, you sleep in the treated bed that night; it’s part of how the treatment works.

Think you’ve got bed bugs?

A shop spray scatters the colony rather than ending it, so the best first step is a call. We’ll talk it through discreetly and give you a clear plan and a real figure.
